Colchicine
Evidence Summary
An anti-inflammatory drug with two large trials showing it lowers the risk of heart attacks and strokes in people who already have cardiovascular disease. FDA-approved in 2023 for that use. Important nuance: it reduces cardiovascular events but did NOT improve overall survival, and the newest trial is less clear-cut. It is a cardiovascular medication, not a longevity supplement.
Safety Considerations
Benefit is on cardiovascular events, not overall lifespan (all-cause mortality neutral; a signal toward more non-cardiovascular deaths). GI side effects; narrow dosing considerations. Prescription drug — use only under medical supervision. Off-label 'anti-inflammaging' longevity use is not supported by the evidence.
