Berberine
Evidence Summary
A supplement with a large base of trials showing it improves blood sugar and lipids — but most of those trials are low quality, and all measure surrogate markers, not hard outcomes like heart attacks or lifespan. The 'natural Ozempic' or 'natural metformin' label overstates it: it is not superior to metformin head-to-head.
Safety Considerations
Same cellular pathway as metformin (AMPK), so combining the two is redundant and the same exercise-blunting caution may apply. Poor absorption. No hard-outcome or longevity data.
